The Commission on Audit (COA) has flagged ₱1 billion in expenditures on the delayed Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) project, according to a report released on July 14, 2026. The audit found that the funds were spent without significant progress, raising concerns about project management and accountability.
The CCMC project, intended to replace the old hospital damaged by the 2013 earthquake, has faced multiple delays and cost overruns. COA's report highlights that the ₱1 billion was disbursed for various expenses, including contractor payments and administrative costs, but the facility remains incomplete.
Local officials have acknowledged the delays and pledged to expedite the project. The COA recommended stricter oversight and a review of the project's timeline to prevent further waste of public funds.
