Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean have raised hopes of a new Fugees album, with Hill saying the duo are “in an amazing place” during a recent interview. The comments have sparked excitement among fans who have waited nearly three decades for new music from the iconic hip-hop group.
Hill, 51, and Jean, 56, have had a famously turbulent relationship since the Fugees disbanded in the late 1990s. However, in a conversation published this week, Hill said they have reconciled and are creatively aligned. “We’re in an amazing place,” she said, without confirming any specific recording plans.
The Fugees—comprising Hill, Jean, and Pras Michel—released their debut album Blunted on Reality in 1994 and the multi-platinum The Score in 1996. They disbanded in 1997, reuniting briefly for a 2005 performance and a 2021 tour that was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While no official announcement has been made about a new album, fans have taken Hill’s comments as a promising sign. The group’s last studio album, The Score, remains a landmark in hip-hop, featuring hits like “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready or Not.”
