The 1996 McLaren F1 GTR, chassis 10R, is set to cross the auction block with RM Sotheby's. This particular car is the only example finished in the factory's striking scarlet-and-yellow pop art livery, a design that has made it one of the most recognizable racing McLarens.
Chassis 10R has a notable ownership history, having spent the last 25 years in the collection of Nick Mason, drummer of Pink Floyd. Mason, a renowned car enthusiast, acquired the car in the late 1990s and has maintained it as part of his significant collection.
The car's racing pedigree is equally impressive. It competed in the 1996 BPR Global GT Series, where it achieved several podium finishes. Its distinctive livery, combined with its provenance, is expected to attract significant interest from collectors.
RM Sotheby's has not yet announced the estimated auction price, but given the rarity and history of the car, it is anticipated to fetch a substantial sum. The auction is scheduled to take place later this year.
