Mohammed Réda Lahmini, a Moroccan member of parliament, has been elected president of the Commission for Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF). The election took place during the APF's 50th session, held in Quebec City, Canada, from July 15 to 19, 2026.
Lahmini, who represents the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) in Morocco's House of Representatives, succeeds the previous officeholder. The commission is responsible for examining issues related to economic development, social policies, and environmental protection within the Francophone world.
In his acceptance speech, Lahmini emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation to address common challenges such as climate change, economic inequality, and sustainable development. He pledged to work closely with member parliaments to promote inclusive policies.
The APF, founded in 1967, brings together 91 member parliaments from French-speaking countries. Its commissions play a key role in drafting resolutions and recommendations for member states.
