Morocco has started producing the first series of license plates in the new unified format, according to a ministerial decree. Workshops in Casablanca and other cities across the kingdom have begun manufacturing the plates, which are set to replace the previous system.
The new format is part of a broader effort to modernize vehicle registration and improve road safety. The plates feature a standardized design with enhanced readability and security features, including a unique alphanumeric code and a barcode.
According to the Moroccan Ministry of Transport, the rollout will be gradual, with existing vehicles required to switch to the new plates during their next registration renewal. The cost of the new plates is set at 200 Moroccan dirhams (approximately $20), as reported by local media.
Authorities have emphasized that the new system will help combat fraud and streamline administrative processes. Vehicle owners are advised to contact authorized workshops to schedule the replacement.
