Nintendo may be exploring an OLED version of the Switch 2, according to a new report from Eurogamer, which cited South Korean outlet ZDNET Korea as claiming serious internal discussions are underway at the company. The report suggests that production of the OLED model could begin in 2027, though Nintendo has not officially confirmed these plans.
The original Switch 2, which launched in 2025, features a standard LCD screen. An OLED upgrade would offer improved contrast, deeper blacks, and better battery life, similar to the OLED model released for the original Switch in 2021. ZDNET Korea's report indicates that Nintendo is considering this move to extend the console's lifecycle and compete with other handheld devices.
Eurogamer noted that the information comes from supply chain sources, but cautioned that plans could change. Nintendo has a history of releasing hardware revisions, including the Switch Lite and Switch OLED, making this a plausible next step. However, no official announcement has been made, and the timeline remains speculative.
