Oualidia Beach, located on Morocco's Atlantic coast, has been awarded the Blue Flag certification for 2026, according to the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The certification recognizes beaches that meet high standards for water quality, environmental management, safety, and services.
The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarded annually to beaches and marinas that comply with strict criteria. Oualidia, known for its lagoon and oyster farming, is one of several Moroccan beaches to receive the distinction this year.
Local authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining the beach's cleanliness and safety to retain the certification. The award is expected to boost tourism in the region, which is already popular for its calm waters and scenic views.
This achievement reflects ongoing efforts by Moroccan environmental agencies to promote sustainable tourism and protect coastal ecosystems. The Blue Flag campaign is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
