Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has assured seamless coal supply to all thermal power stations in Telangana, including those operated by the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO), to meet rising electricity demand attributed to El Niño weather conditions, according to a company statement on July 18, 2026.
The state-owned coal mining company, which operates mines in the Godavari Valley, confirmed that it has sufficient coal stocks and production capacity to meet the requirements of power plants. SCCL officials stated that they are coordinating with the power utilities to ensure timely delivery and avoid any disruptions.
Telangana's power demand has surged in recent weeks due to higher temperatures and reduced rainfall associated with El Niño, leading to increased reliance on thermal power. The state's coal-fired plants have a combined capacity of over 4,000 megawatts, and SCCL is the primary coal supplier for these facilities.
The assurance comes as the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast below-normal monsoon rains in parts of the region, raising concerns about hydropower generation. SCCL's commitment aims to stabilize the power supply and prevent outages during the peak summer months.
