The Chicago White Sox announced on July 11, 2026, that rookie first baseman Murakami has been selected to the American League All-Star team and will participate in the Home Run Derby.
Murakami, 24, is batting .298 with 28 home runs and 72 RBIs this season, leading all AL rookies in home runs. He is the first White Sox rookie to make the All-Star team since Chris Sale in 2012.
The Home Run Derby will take place on July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as part of All-Star Week. Murakami will face off against other top sluggers including Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol praised Murakami's work ethic and power at the plate. 'He's been a force for us all season,' Grifol said.
