All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has confirmed that veteran playmaker Beauden Barrett remains part of the team's plans, despite not featuring in the opening two tests of the 2026 season against France. Barrett, who has 144 test caps, was an unused substitute in both matches, with younger players Ruben Love and Stephen Perofeta getting game time at fullback.
Speaking to media on July 14, Robertson said Barrett's experience and leadership are still valued, and that the 35-year-old is 'still very much in the picture' for upcoming fixtures, including the Rugby Championship. 'Beauden's work ethic and professionalism are second to none. He's pushing hard in training and we know what he can bring,' Robertson added.
Barrett, a two-time World Rugby Player of the Year, last played for the All Blacks in November 2025 against Ireland. His last start was in July 2025. The All Blacks won both tests against France in July 2026, 30-20 in Auckland and 24-17 in Wellington.
The team's next assignment is a test against Argentina on August 3 in Buenos Aires, where Barrett could be in line for a return to the matchday 23.
