Morocco has 244 active aquaculture projects representing a target production capacity of approximately 90,000 tonnes per year, the National Agency for Aquaculture Development (ANDA) announced following its board of directors meeting on July 14, 2026.
The projects are part of the national aquaculture development strategy, Halieutis, which aims to boost the sector's contribution to the national economy. ANDA reported that the projects are spread across various regions, including Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, LaΓ’youne-Sakia El Hamra, and Souss-Massa.
The agency highlighted that the projects cover different types of aquaculture, including fish farming, shellfish farming, and seaweed cultivation. The target capacity of 90,000 tonnes per year is expected to be reached once all projects are fully operational.
ANDA also noted that the sector has created over 5,000 direct jobs and aims to increase this number as new projects come online. The agency is working to simplify administrative procedures and improve access to financing for aquaculture investors.
