Recent trade data shows that Morocco has become the leading supplier of berries to Norway, accounting for more than half of Norway's berry imports. This marks a significant shift in Norway's berry sourcing, which previously relied more heavily on European countries.
The increase is largely attributed to Morocco's expanding berry production, particularly blueberries and raspberries, which are harvested earlier in the season than in Northern Europe. This allows Norwegian consumers to enjoy fresh berries earlier in the year.
According to the Norwegian Agricultural Authority, imports of berries from Morocco have grown steadily over the past few years. In 2025, Morocco supplied over 50% of the total berry imports, surpassing traditional suppliers like Spain and Poland.
This trend is expected to continue as Morocco invests in modern agricultural techniques and cold chain logistics to maintain quality during transport. Norwegian retailers have welcomed the reliable supply, though some local farmers express concern about competition.
