Spain has initiated health checks for travelers arriving from Italy, according to official announcements. The measures, which began on August 9, 2026, are part of Spain's efforts to monitor and contain the spread of COVID-19 variants.
Passengers arriving from Italian airports and ports will undergo temperature screenings and visual health assessments. Those showing symptoms or with high temperatures may be subject to further medical evaluation or quarantine requirements.
The Spanish Ministry of Health stated that the decision was made in coordination with European Union partners and follows a rise in COVID-19 cases in Italy. The checks are being implemented at major entry points, including Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat airports.
Travelers are advised to arrive early to accommodate the additional procedures. The measures will be reviewed regularly based on the epidemiological situation.
