State Road 19 near Groveland, Florida, has experienced three shutdowns in the past two weeks, according to local reports. The closures, which occurred between late June and early July 2026, have raised concerns about traffic congestion and safety on the busy corridor.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) confirmed that the closures were due to a combination of factors, including a vehicle crash, a downed power line, and a hazardous material spill. No fatalities were reported in any of the incidents, but they caused significant delays for commuters and residents.
Local officials, including Groveland Mayor Tim Loucks, have called for a review of safety measures on the road. 'We need to ensure that State Road 19 is safe for everyone,' Loucks said in a statement. 'Three closures in two weeks is unacceptable.'
FDOT is currently evaluating traffic patterns and considering additional signage or signal improvements. The agency has not announced a timeline for any changes.
